Extreme poverty, from a basic, economic standpoint refers to an individual that earns less than $1.90 a day. But the effects of poverty are significantly more far-reaching. Poverty impacts mortality rates, hunger, education, housing, family stability, violent crime, trafficking and corruption. Almost every justice initiative must factor in the effects of poverty on that issue.
