Meet Your 2019 New Year’s Goals with Venture
Did you know that only 8 percent of people who make New Year’s resolutions actually achieve them? That means that most people who set out to get more fit, live healthier, better their relationships etc., fail. Why? This post looks at a few of those reasons and then offers some ways you can have success and get involved with Venture this year, We want to help you to achieve your goals and change some lives while you’re at it!
3 Reasons Why Resolutions Fail:
You have a goal, but don’t have a plan
Many people say they want to get fit in the new year. However, they don’t have a clear plan, or idea of what “getting fit” actually implies. Figuring out exactly what your goals are, why they’re important to you and then creating a specific plan that enables you to achieve those goals is critical to actually making them happen.
Tip for Success: This year spend more time on the “why and how” than just the “what”
Saying you are going to get fit is easy. But figuring out how to get there takes time and planning. Map out the specific things you are going to do. For example: sign up for a Venture tour, then plan out the training program and get some friends to join! Also, setting some short term more attainable goals that you can meet is hugely motivating. If your goal is to run a marathon but you’ve never run before, start with a 5K, and add mini-goals as you go along.
You try to do TOO many things
Making changes in your life can be difficult and overwhelming. Many of us have a laundry list of things we would like to change and when January rolls around we enthusiastically try to tackle all of them at once. This is a recipe for burnout and often people just give up altogether.
Tip for Success: Stop trying to do everything; be specific
This year, instead of trying to do everything at once, pick one or two goals and concentrate on those. Celebrate even the smallest of accomplishments along the way. Creating new habits is a marathon not a sprint with setbacks that will happen because life happens. If you have a day where you get off course – let it go and get back on track the next day.
You don’t have enough support
Accountability is one of the most powerful forces when making changes and sticking to them. When you have a common goal within a community, the chances of achieving those goals increases exponentially. You’ll also enjoy the process more, find encouragement to keep going, and have people to hold you accountable.
Tip for Success: Announce your goals
Announcing your plans to friends over email, Facebook or Instagram can help keep you focused. Additionally, its likely other people have similar goals. Challenge others and ask them to join you on your journey. Everything’s better with a friend.
