Run #LizzyStrong is a movement of family and friends of Lizzy Shepherd to remember Lizzy’s legacy and raise awareness for a cause she was passionate about – the fight against human trafficking.
Lizzy was 29 years old, married, and 20 weeks pregnant when she was diagnosed with cervical cancer. Lizzy and her husband, Chris, made a decision to keep the baby, even though they were advised by medical doctors against it. Their daughter, Sophie, was born premature, but now is a thriving toddler. Immediately after Sophie’s birth, Lizzy began treatment. Over the next 15 months, Lizzy fought cancer holistically and through medical intervention. In June 2015, the cancer was removed, but returned shortly after. Lizzy went to be with Jesus later that fall on October 19, 2015.
Lizzy was an incredible model of what it means to live a full, intentional and inspiring life. The choices she made, her character, her passion for her family, for running, and the way she served others has inspired thousands. #LizzyStrong has become a movement of individuals who are passionately committed to living life as Lizzy did. You can view Lizzy’s story, told by her family, here (25-minute video).
Run #LizzyStrong exists to provide an opportunity for Lizzy’s community to honor her life by running 4.11 miles and raising funds for human trafficking prevention, intervention, and aftercare.
