How to pray for refugees.
Armed conflict, climate-related disaster, religious persecution, and more continue to displace more and more people from their homes and countries. While the problem can feel far away at times, we know that our world is increasingly affected by it. So how can we help? As Christians, our first step should be prayer. So the question becomes how to pray for refugees. We should pray a prayer for encouragement and so much more.
First, let’s take a look at some Bible verses about immigrants and about refugees.
1. Deuteronomy 10:18
“He defends the cause of the fatherless and the widow, and loves the foreigner residing among you, giving them food and clothing.”
2. Zechariah 7:10
“‘Do not oppress the widow or the fatherless, the foreigner or the poor. Do not plot evil against each other.’”
3. Hebrews 13:1-2
“Keep on loving one another as brothers and sisters. Do not forget to show hospitality to strangers for by doing that some have shown hospitality to angels without knowing it.”
With a better understanding of what the Bible says about refugees, we can pray for them more effectively. Here are some ideas on what to pray for:
1. Prayer for Safety + Sustenance
2. Prayer for Physical + Spiritual Comfort
3. Prayer for Refuge
4. Prayer for Encouragement and Hope
5. Prayer for Help from those around them
Having read these Bible verses, we have a better idea of how to engage refugees around the world and how to pray for them. We should pray a prayer for encouragement, as well as hope, comfort, safety, refuge, sustenance and help.
