Pacific Northwest

Pacific Northwest

Trip Overview

A Venture tour in the Pacific Northwest means an incredible ten days discovering the diverse landscape of the Upper Left USA, all while helping end injustice with IJM.

From the densely forested alpine lakes of Western Washington, to the bicycle-friendly urban landscape of Seattle and Portland, you’ll cycle through beautiful, remote, and challenging landscapes.

After team training in Seattle, we’ll ferry across the Puget Sound and head north along the coast. We’ll follow Highway 101 West until we hit the Pacific Ocean, and from there, it’s a few hundred more miles of ocean vistas, towering peaks, and the most epic uphills – and downhills – you’ll ever cycle.

With a strong focus on biblical social justice and discipleship, you and your team will study, learn, reflect, and wrestle together on some of life’s most important and pressing questions: Who am I? Who is God? How might I respond to suffering and injustice in the world? Is there really any good news about injustice, and if so, how can I be a part of it?

And as you meet your fundraising goal prior to departing, you’ll inspire your community to actively engage with you in the redemptive and beautiful story of justice and hope that God is writing right here, and right now, through the International Justice Mission’s work with oppressed people around the world.

“It was through pain and suffering that I pushed the limits of my physical and mental self and realized a selfless path is much more rewarding. In the end it’s about glorifying God through our gifts and lending a helping hand to those in need.”

Pacific Northwest (IJM) 2015

“I thought a bike tour would be about conquering all my weaknesses, overcoming the mental blocks that whispered failure, and physical constraints on my muscle, but the tour ended up being a reminder of my ability to be vulnerable and joyful, honest and reflective.”

Before my tour, I had imagined every possible angle of failure before I even arrived on the West Coast, and there was nothing for which I didn’t feel prepared. I wondered if my body, my bike, my mind – all of it – would be able to keep pedaling. I figured the unexpected would be the most difficult.

I thought a bike tour would be about conquering all my weaknesses, overcoming the mental blocks that whispered failure, and physical constraints on my muscle, but the tour ended up being a reminder of my ability to be vulnerable and joyful, honest and reflective.

The unexpected parts didn’t make it difficult; they were liberating. A six mile downhill, the community of friends, and the opportunity to reflect caught me off guard and were completely joyful and liberating. I thought the current of this trip would remind me of who God is, but I think instead it reminded me of who I am. And that’s a good start.
