Trip Overview

Relay run from Pittsburgh, PA to Washington D.C. You and your teammates will each run approximately 15 miles per day in manageable 5 mile increments. Your run will take you on the runner-friendly Great Allegheny Passage and C&O Canal Rail Trail which will allow you to experience the beauty of Pennsylvania to the fullest. All along the way, you’ll spread the news about Venture and International Justice Mission’s work around the world. Our final day includes a stop at IJM headquarters in DC, where we’ll meet our friends and partners who are working to put an end to violence and poverty around the world.

With a strong focus on biblical social justice and discipleship, you and your team will study, learn, reflect, and wrestle together on some of life’s most important and pressing questions: Who am I? Who is God? How might I respond to suffering and injustice in the world? Is there really any good news about injustice, and if so, how can I be a part of it?

And as you meet your fundraising goal prior to departing, you’ll inspire your community to actively engage with you in the redemptive and beautiful story of justice and hope that God is writing right here, right now, through Venture and IJM’s work with oppressed people around the world.

IJM Freedom Tour 2017

“Taking a break from the ‘real world’ and finding Venture in the middle of life’s daily chaos reminded me of what Christ promises us: a place to belong, a place to be loved, a place to grow, and a place to give Him glory. It was really touching to be invited into so many homes, to share prayers and meals with strangers, and to leave as friends.”

The Cause

Everyone Deserves Justice

This tour will be raising funds for both Venture and International Justice Mission’s anti trafficking initiatives in Southeast Asia.

Venture (www.venture.org) partners with local communities in Southeast Asia to bring safe housing, food security, education, discipleship, and the gospel to the least reached and most vulnerable people in the world.

International Justice Mission (www.ijm.org) is a global organization that protects the poor from violence throughout the developing world. IJM lawyers, investigators, and aftercare professionals partner with local authorities to rescue victims of violence, bring criminals to justice, restore survivors, and strengthen justice systems.

When you join the Freedom Run Tour, you’ll help Venture and International Justice Mission bring restoration to trafficked individuals, and prove that justice for the poor is possible.

Stories From Participants

Megan Garber

IJM Freedom Tour 2016

“I thought a Venture tour would be about conquering all my weaknesses, overcoming the mental blocks that whispered failure, and physical constraints on my muscle, but the tour ended up being a reminder of my ability to be vulnerable and joyful, honest and reflective.”

I came to the Venture Running Tour with a limited amount of running experience, and I knew that it would be quite the physical challenge for me. What I didn’t realize was that I would be challenged mentally and emotionally more than I had anticipated.

But my teammates were amazing, and I gained so much joy from them every day. Because of them, my spirit was strong and my faith grew every day. I was so humbled by those around me, and I was encouraged by the stories each of us brought to the table. We were able to be ourselves without any judgement, and we only had genuine love, inspiration, and praise for everyone else.

And while we had so much fun along the way, I was most impacted by how much my prayer life shifted because of the tour.

One of my favorite moments was when we were running a 5 mile stretch on a gravel road with no houses or cars for miles. As we were running, a herd of horses appeared and began running in the field next to us. My heart was beating so fast, and we didn’t know what to expect.

There were no fences, just us and the horses in the middle of nowhere. As they continued to run, they would stop from time to time and just watch us. They were as curious about us as we were about them! This happened a few more times before they decided to run off towards the mountains. It was so beautiful and calming, and it felt as if time was standing still.

All you could hear were our feet on the gravel road and the distant pounding of their hooves as they trailed away.

It was such a wonderful reminder of how precious life is and how vast this world is. We can impact others in more ways than we’ll ever know.I knew in that moment that I was in the exact place at the exact time that God had laid out. I love these moments and appreciate the little reminders that present themselves every day.

I was able to reflect on my life and faith journey more when I came back from tour. I honestly thought the reflection would happen during the journey, but most of it happened in the weeks following. It made me want to live differently. I’m so appreciative of my teammates, leaders and those who supported me on this experience. I am absolutely looking forward to the next tour!
