Outfitted with great gear from CampCrate (click the link to see all the great gear they’re providing to participants for FREE!), you’ll spend most of your time above the treeline, offering incredible views of Great Sand Dunes National Monument and many surrounding 13ers.

As you and your team backpack, camp, and take in the scenery, you’ll engage in conversations about biblical justice that are sure to leave a lasting impact on your life.

“Taking a break from the ‘real world’ and finding Venture in the middle of life’s daily chaos reminded me of what Christ promises us: a place to belong, a place to be loved, a place to grow, and a place to give Him glory. It was really touching to be invited into so many homes, to share prayers and meals with strangers, and to leave as friends.”

The Cause

Everyone Deserves Food

The Colorado Trail tour will specifically raise money to fund Venture’s feeding programs in Southeast Asia, which is home to the world’s longest-running civil war. This war that began in 1948, has displaced over 4 million people from their homes. Hundreds of thousands remain stateless and have no citizenship or land of their own. Many still live in Internally Displaced Person (IDP) and refugee camps.

Venture works within the most remote and hardest-struck areas in Southeast Asia to provide nutritious food for displaced people and orphans. Through a partnership with Feed My Starving Children, we provide 15,000 meals every day.

Venture partners with local communities to bring food security, education, discipleship, and the Gospel to the least reached and most vulnerable people in the world.

Megan Garber

IJM Freedom Tour 2016

“I thought a Venture tour would be about conquering all my weaknesses, overcoming the mental blocks that whispered failure, and physical constraints on my muscle, but the tour ended up being a reminder of my ability to be vulnerable and joyful, honest and reflective.”

I came to the Venture Running Tour with a limited amount of running experience, and I knew that it would be quite the physical challenge for me. What I didn’t realize was that I would be challenged mentally and emotionally more than I had anticipated.

But my teammates were amazing, and I gained so much joy from them every day. Because of them, my spirit was strong and my faith grew every day. I was so humbled by those around me, and I was encouraged by the stories each of us brought to the table. We were able to be ourselves without any judgement, and we only had genuine love, inspiration, and praise for everyone else.

And while we had so much fun along the way, I was most impacted by how much my prayer life shifted because of the tour.

One of my favorite moments was when we were running a 5 mile stretch on a gravel road with no houses or cars for miles. As we were running, a herd of horses appeared and began running in the field next to us. My heart was beating so fast, and we didn’t know what to expect.

There were no fences, just us and the horses in the middle of nowhere. As they continued to run, they would stop from time to time and just watch us. They were as curious about us as we were about them! This happened a few more times before they decided to run off towards the mountains. It was so beautiful and calming, and it felt as if time was standing still.

All you could hear were our feet on the gravel road and the distant pounding of their hooves as they trailed away.

It was such a wonderful reminder of how precious life is and how vast this world is. We can impact others in more ways than we’ll ever know.I knew in that moment that I was in the exact place at the exact time that God had laid out. I love these moments and appreciate the little reminders that present themselves every day.

I was able to reflect on my life and faith journey more when I came back from tour. I honestly thought the reflection would happen during the journey, but most of it happened in the weeks following. It made me want to live differently. I’m so appreciative of my teammates, leaders and those who supported me on this experience. I am absolutely looking forward to the next tour!
