Branden Scott was originally going to do a Grand Canyon Rim to Rim to Rim run. When Covid-19 caused the trip to be cancelled, he decided to press on and still log the miles! (47.5) He raised $994 for Venture’s refugee feeding program. Recently, we asked Brandon about his experience. Here’s what he had to say.
Q: How did you first hear about Venture?
I first heard about Venture around 2008 during the early cross country bike rides and quickly fell in love with their mission and vision. I got to go on a shorter ride across New York State in 2011.
Q: What was it that compelled you to do something about injustice?
Short answer: The Bible. The Gospel and the example of Jesus constantly points the believer to be aware of needs outside of themselves and to work and fight for justice for the oppressed. I have specifically had a heart for the people of Southeast Asia since I was able to go on my first Venture ride. The more stories I heard about what was going on in the area, the more compelled I felt to act.
Q: How did you come up with the idea to do a “Rim to Rim to Rim” challenge?
Some people I work with had originally planned a group run at the Grand Canyon that I was a part of. It sounded super challenging and honestly, a little crazy. While training, I was encouraged to find a “why” behind my run and I was excited to learn about Venture Miles, where I could turn an already epic trip into something that would make a global impact.

Q: How did it go?
Great overall! Unfortunately my group run fell through due to COVID but I was able to still run/bike on my own here in OKC. It was for sure one of the most challenging things I’ve ever done physically and I was surprised at the amount of mental power it took to stay focused and keep moving. The wind here in Oklahoma can be pretty brutal!
Q: What’s next?
I’m already looking for other marathons to run and I hope to do my first ultra next year. I’m also looking forward to other ways I can partner with Venture in the future!
